CNN: Ryan: 'We are not planning on erecting a deportation force'
(CNN)House Speaker Paul Ryan said Sunday despite Donald Trump's campaign rhetoric, lawmakers are not prepared to form a deportation force to round-up and deport undocumented immigrants.
"We are not planning on erecting a deportation force. Donald Trump's not planning on that," Ryan told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union."
"I think we should put people's minds at ease: That is not what our focus is. That is not what we're focused on. We're focused on securing the border. We think that's first and foremost, before we get into any other immigration issue, we've got to know who's coming and going into the country -- we've got to secure the border," he added.
Trump told CBS' Lesley Stahl in a "60 Minutes" interview set to air Sunday night that he still plans to build a US-Mexico border wall.

WNU Editor: President-elect Trump is saying something else .... No Mass Deportation But Will Do Border Security (Washington Post). For as long as I can remember .... leaders in Washington have always promised to secure the borders .... but they never have .... and I doubt that when push comes to shove they are going to allocate the funds for President Trump's immigration policies and "border wall". I think President-elect Donald Trump knows this .... but in a certain way he does not need Congress to implement his policies .... all that he has to do is enforce the immigration laws that are already on the books. Case in point .... illegal aliens who have committed serious crimes have abdicated their right to become citizens .... and yes .... once they have served their time, deportation is the next step. The U.S. Congress has no say in this (unless they change the laws) .... and in view of the election results .... I doubt that they will.
