USA Today: Iraqi troops scour eastern Mosul for Islamic State suicide bombers

MOSUL, Iraq — Security forces are searching for Islamic State fighters who shaved their long beards to blend in with civilians so they can carry out reprisal attacks in eastern Mosul, which Iraqi troops finally seized from militant control this week.

Suicide bombings are expected in the coming weeks, said Capt. Ahougba Nafa of the Iraqi Army's 16th division. As this section of Mosul comes back to life with crowds filling streets and marketplaces, terror attacks have the potential to be devastating.

"We are aware of the threat and we are gathering information about them by keeping in touch with the civilians," Nafa said at an army checkpoint.
