Kochi: A drone belonging to the Indian Navy crashed in Kochi’s Willingdon Island during a routine surveillance exercise.
Technical glitch is believed to be the reason for the crash.
The crash occurred ahead of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu’s arrival at the Naval airbase at 12 noon.
The police
have heightened the security cover for the Vice-President in the wake of the incident.
The remotely-piloted aircraft (RPA) is capable of flying continuously for 8 hours. A probe has been ordered into the crash.
Naidu will arrive in Kochi shortly for a two-day visit. On Tuesday, he will inaugurate the eleventh Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum. The next day, he will attend Kochi corporation's Golden Jubilee celebrations and the 160th-anniversary celebrations of Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
