ABC News: Trump says he'll meet Putin to talk North Korea
President Trump says he expects to meet face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week on the sidelines of an economic summit in Vietnam.
"I think it's expected we'll meet with Putin, yeah," Trump told reporters on Air Force One en route to Japan. "We want Putin's help on North Korea, and we'll be meeting with a lot of different leaders."
"Russia borders North Korea. They also are very concerned, I think, with the direction North Korea is leading the region toward, into this crisis. And naturally, Russia should have a role in that future," a senior administration official told ABC News, explaining why Trump would seek Putin's help. "Russia has obligations as a UN member to upholding United Nations Security Council resolutions ... including the sanctions passed earlier this year."
