Theresa May today defended making a slew of concessions to the EU as she finally struck a deal to unlock trade talks.

After a frantic night of negotiations, a bleary-eyed PM and Jean-Claude Juncker confirmed the 'breakthrough' had been achieved at an early morning press conference.

Mrs May said the settlement was 'in the best interests of the whole country', while the DUP - which torpedoed an earlier version on Monday complaining that efforts to avoid a hard Irish border could tear the UK apart - said it was now satisfied after explicit commitments were made to protect the union.
