BrahMos being test fired from INS Tarkash guided missile stealth frigate
In order to enhancing the country’s capabilities of hitting enemy targets of up to 400 km, India recently test fired the Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile with an indigenous seeker at Rajasthan’s Pokhran test range. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed that the missile hit the target with pinpoint accuracy. She further said in her tweet, “Formidable Supersonic cruise Missile Brahmos was successfully flight tested at Pokhran test range, Rajasthan."
The precision strike weapon with Indian made seeker flew in its designated trajectory and hit the target with pinpoint accuracy.” The indigenous seeker is developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) which determines the accuracy of the missile by guiding it to the target. Thursday, March 22 was the first time this missile travelling at a speed three times of a sound, was tested with this seeker.
The Defence Minister has congratulated the DRDO for the successful test of the missile saying it will further enhance the country’s national security. The test firing comes three months after the Brahmos cruise missile was successfully test fired from the Indian Air Force’s frontline Sukhoi – 30 MKI Combat Jet. Senior IAF officials also witnessed the successful launch of the tactical weapon. Brahmos is formed from the names of two rivers, Brahmaputra of India and the Moskava of Russia. Brahmos is a joint venture between DRDO and NPO Mashinostroyenia of Russia. As India has become a full time member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), all technical restrictions were lifted and the Indo- Russian joint venture can extend the range of the missile up to 400 kms. The Army and the Navy have already inducted the missile.
