In the framework of the Army's 2018 Military Forum, the manufacturer of KBtochmash has brought the Sosna low-altitude surface-to-air missile system.
According to representatives of KBtochmash, the Sosna range of low-altitude air-to-air missiles is one of the flagship of the unit, it has many advantages such as mobility and high automation, which works well in everything. It is not limited by the minimum range and is very resistant to interference.
The Sosna Air Combat Unit uses 9M317 Sosna-R missile interceptor missiles, which are guided through a beam-based laser beam emitting from a photovoltaic array mounted on a rotating platform. Its objectives range from helicopters, low flying raids to both cruise missiles and jet shells.
Another special feature of Sosna is that it can fire while on the move and swim through water obstacles to keep up with the advancing armies of motorized divisions, protecting targets on the ground, maneuvering targets. The system can be deployed separately or in combination with multi-layered air defense network.
With a firing range of 5 km, Sosna has been identified as a replacement for the aging Strela-10M units, in addition to the potential for modernization of Sosna.
Not only in the Russian Army, the manufacturer of KBtochmash has announced that it is promoting the sale of the anti-aircraft missile to Southeast Asia, of course aiming to replace the Strela-10M.

In addition to the functional fit to replace the Strela-10M, the Sosna air defense system also has a tremendous advantage that in this Southeast Asian region it is the only holding in Vietnam.
This comes from the 9M317 missile as well as the similarly-deployed photovoltaic module being installed on our Gepard 3.9 missile defense. If SOSNA is chosen, Vietnam will be greatly reduced, the burden of technical assurance.
Not only that, when there was a large platform with Sosna-R missiles, Vietnam would be very likely to be given the same technology for on-site fabrication as in the case of the missile. anti-ship Kh-35 Uran.
