On Thursday 14 November 2019 Air Chief Marshal Manat Wongwath presided over the ceremony for the launching of fighter aircraft F-5TH and unmanned aircraft type RTAF U1 (R-T-A-F-U-One) at 2 Royal Thai Airfield Flying 6, Don Mueang.
Fighter aircraft modernization project, Squadron 21, Air Wing 21, Ubon Ratchathani, 14 aircraft, Northop F-5E/F-5F Tiger II Squadron 21, Air Wing 21 Ubon Ratchathani becomes to 14 F-5TH Super Tigris by Elbit System Israel and Industrial Company Aviation, Thai Aviation Industries (TAI), Thailand has recently been shown the fighter jet F-5E no. 21137 in a new updated camouflage color, armed with air-to-air missiles near Diehl IRIS-T, Germany, at wing-tip weaponry for the first time.
Air Chief Marshal Manat Wongwat, wearing a helmet mounted on the DASH IV display, flew with the F-5F Air Extinguisher No. 21105, the first aircraft that has been updated according to the project. At the wing tip of an armed air missile near AIM-9 Sidewinder by F-5E, number 21137, registration 37/3, serial No.74-1575 (in production in 1974, active in 1988) and F-5F No. 21105, registration 524. serial No.79-1692 (Produced in 1979, commissioned 1981), which has been updated, will be available for 15 years up to 2032.
The F-5TH Super Tigris will be able to use air-to-air weapons out of sight (BVR: Beyond Visual -Range missile) Israeli Rafael I-Derby including Israeli Rafael Litening III targets, Elbit Systems LIZARD Israeli laser bombs.
The Electronic Warfare by Israeli Rafael Sky Shield and the link is a network through the Link-T Datalink developed in Thailand. Resulting in a capability equivalent to the 4.5 era fighter aircraft, such as the Saab Gripen C/D fighter aircraft of Squadron 701 Wing 7 Surat Thani.
On the same day, the Thai Air Force also conducted a ceremony for tactical unmanned aerial systems, RTAF U1 (R-T-A-F-U-One) medium-sized aircraft, 17 units that are understood to match in the 206 Squadron, Watthana Nakhon, Sa Kaeo Province which is based on the development of the Sky Scout unmanned aircraft system of the Thai company RV Connex.
The unmanned aerial vehicle RTAF U1 is a design and production of 90 percent in Thailand. Both the F-5TH and U1 UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) projects are the first two projects in accordance with the policy "Purchase and Development" (P&D) approach.
