Yugo class mini submarine of Vietnam People's Navy (photo : VietDefense)
One of the two North-Korean built Yugo-class minisubs preparing to be overhauled. They belong to the 196th Submarine Commando Regiment of the Vietnam People's Navy.
A starving North Korea offered the submarines to Vietnam in the 1990s in exchange for Vietnamese rice. The Yugos would be used for training purposes before being given to the 196th Regiment. They allowed Vietnam's naval commandos to infiltrate coastlines and conduct reconnaissance.
It is unknown when this photo was made. Some source said that the submarines have been retired years ago.
