Newsweek: China Accuses U.S., Japan of Ganging Up on Them, Creating 'Anti-China Encirclement'  

China accused the United States and Japan of "clinging to the Cold War mentality, deliberately engaging in group confrontation and trying to create an anti-China encirclement," the Associated Press reported. a man wearing a suit and tie: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian takes a question at the daily media briefing in Beijing on April 8, 2020. China accused the U.S. and Japan of ganging up on it and creating an "anti-China encirclement." 

"The U.S. and Japan should immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs and undermining regional peace and stability," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian at a daily briefing. "China will resolutely defend its sovereignty, security, and development interests." 

China's main priority has been to divide South Korea, Japan and the U.S. as allies. South Korea and China share a history of being subjected to Japanese occupation during the first half of the 20th century. The government wants to keep those memories fresh for the younger generation.
