UN Report Warns Of 'Unprecedented' Afghan Civilian Casualties From The Recent Taliban Offensives

 

Daily Mail: Afghanistan faces 'unprecedented' number of civilian deaths from Taliban attacks, UN warns, as US military says it will support government forces with air strikes 

* Afghanistan could see highest civilian deaths in over a decade, the UN warned 

* During the first half of 2021, 1,659 civilians were killed and 3,254 were wounded

* General Kenneth McKenzie said US would continue airstrikes on Taliban targets 

* He refused to say if support would continue after the withdrawal on August 31 

* Violence has surged since early May when the Taliban cranked up their attacks 

Afghanistan faces an 'unprecedented' number of civilians deaths from the Taliban offensive, the UN has warned. 

It comes as the US military said it would continue to support Afghan government forces with airstrikes as it prepares to completely withdraw from the country by August 31. 

Violence has surged since early May when the Taliban cranked up operations to coincide with a final withdrawal of US-led foreign forces.
