China Deploys Wing Loong II Drones for Coast Guard Patrols Around Taiwan

The Chinese Coast Guard has officially begun flying Wing Loong II, also known as WL-2, unmanned aerial systems as part of routine maritime patrol operations. This marks the first public acknowledgment of such deployments. The disclosure, shared by the Defense Innovation Review X account on January 27, 2026, follows the drones’ visible use during the “Justice Mission 2025” exercises in December 2025.
