Lockheed Martin on August 7, 2026, outlined a missile-defense architecture in which the F-35 Lightning II can feed tracking and targeting data from the air into a network linking space-based sensors, command systems and interceptors. The approach could shorten the time from detection to engagement, giving U.S. forces a better chance to track fast-moving threats and assign the right weapon before an attack reaches its target.
