US approves $4.5 billion KC-46A Pegasus tanker sale to Qatar following Iran strikes

On August 20, 2026, the U.S. State Department approved a potential $4.5 billion Foreign Military Sale to Qatar for up to four Boeing KC-46A Pegasus aerial-refueling tankers and associated equipment. The transaction addresses a major operational vulnerability for the Qatar Emiri Air Force, which operates dozens of advanced F-15QA, Rafale, and Typhoon fighters without organic airborne refueling infrastructure. Establishing a dedicated Qatari KC-46A fleet extends defensive patrol endurance around key national infrastructure and reduces operational reliance on U.S. and coalition tanker assets. Read full defense news at this link...

In the event of sustained Iranian attacks, KC-46A Pegasus tankers would allow Qatar’s F-15QA and other compatible fighters to refuel in flight, remain on air defense patrols longer, and avoid repeated returns to Qatari air bases that could be under missile or drone attack, damaged, or temporarily closed.
